For this US July 4th Independence Day, I’m suggesting: let’s look at the positive.
Here are some of my favorite patriotic songs…
1 - Jimi Hendrix: The Stars Spangled Banner, live at Woodstock (the sound effects he is able to make with a guitar are beyond mind-boggling) —
2 - Ray Charles: America the Beautiful —
3 - The Mormon Tabernacle Choir: Battle Hymn of the Republic —
4 - Lee Greenwood: God Bless the USA —
Yes we have issues, but the vast majority of Americans are good people. Is our fate going to be determined by a small group of vocal malcontents, or the majority?
PS — I was just sent this great piece: America Seen From the Eyes of a Child.
PPS — I was also just sent this excellent commentary: All Immigrants Are Born on the Fourth of July.

I enjoy Hendrix' rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, the most amazing (studio) version of which you can hear on his rarely-mentioned record "Rainbow Bridge", the entire of which is a testimony to his genius. However Hendrix' version is not what I'd call entirely positive. The point of his version is the spectacular ending, in which the anthem devolves into chaos, including the sounds of machine guns. The recording is a protest of the Vietman War: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9rgKPf2a_o
John,
Great way to start this morning with songs about America as I look over a fine lake here in Michigan. America is worth fighting for and standing up for. Yep, the small woke crowd is loud, but they're on the wrong side of right...so, they won't prevail.
